1. ==> A Military Parade for Trump’s Birthday is a Bad Idea
The streets of central D.C. will be filled with thousands of soldiers, massive tanks and artillery this Saturday for a huge military parade marking the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary – and Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. Critics call it a $45 million vanity project that misuses military resources and contradicts American democratic values. Edmond Davis says there are many reasons that the parade is a bad idea, from politicizing the armed forces to the event’s timing so close to Juneteenth, a Federal holiday marking the end of slavery. Invite Davis to discuss why the event is being criticized and whether a military parade for a living, sitting president is troublesome. Edmond W. Davis is a journalist, historian, Tuskegee Airmen global scholar and emotional intelligence expert. Contact him at (501) 773-2039
2. ==> Military Parades Are as American as Apple Strudel
Donald Wolfensberger says America has a long history of military parades. “In the early days of the republic, it was quite common for the president to review the troops in parades every Fourth of July. That practice ended with President James Polk in 1845. However, in 1865 perhaps the most impressive military parade in U.S. history was held. Called the Grand Review of the Armies, it was held on May 23 and 24 after President Andrew Johnson declared an end to the Civil War on May 10. The returning Union soldiers marched 12 abreast, stretching back seven miles,” he explains. Other military parades include two huge ones in New York City in 1942 and 1946 marking U.S. entry and victory in World War II, and for Dwight Eisenhower’s inaugurals in 1953 and 1957. Donald R. Wolfensberger is a Bipartisan Policy Center fellow, and congressional scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He served as a staff member in the U.S. House of Representatives for 28 years. He is author of “Congress and the People: Deliberative Democracy on Trial” and “Changing Cultures in Congress: From Fair Play to Power Plays.” Contact him at dwolfensberger@bipartisanpolicy.org

He’s the author of “Shame Unmasked” and “The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth,” and brings bold, bridge-building insights to every interview. 14. ==> Has Christianity Abandoned God’s Commands? This Author Says Yes
Churches across the world preach love for God—but are they ignoring what that love requires: obedience to His original commandments? In his thought-provoking book “Following Christ: Rediscovering the Jewish Faith of Jesus,” religious scholar Harry Buerer makes a bold claim. He says modern Christian¬ity has strayed from God’s instructions, abandoning practices given through Moses including keeping the Sabbath, observing biblical festivals and honoring dietary laws. Buerer, a seminary-trained Bible scholar and longtime church leader, argues that Jesus and his earliest followers upheld these teachings—and that Gentile Christians were never meant to reject them. His insights challenge centuries of tradition and invite believers to take a fresh look at what it really means to love and obey God. This is a conversation that will stir hearts, spark debate, and encourage deeper biblical reflection. Contact Harry Buerer at (503) 388-9245; hbuerer@rtirguests.com
