And Other Kids Can, Too
When a parent is at wit’s end trying to help a bright child who has gone in a bad direction, it is not uncommon for that parent to turn to a counselor or a teacher for help. What is uncommon, however, is for that help to come from a person who has been there, done that, and then, after getting back on track, shared the secrets of his success so others might benefit from them.
Counselor and educator Nigel Williamson once earned good grades in school but then joined a gang, a decision that led him to violence, academic failure, and expulsion from school. The key to getting him off the path of destruction was a mentor, who helped Williamson find a positive path that led him back to school and to graduating at the top of his class. Williamson will tell listeners:
- Mentors are important. Unless a person has support, efforts toward success are not going to work.
- The seven habits of a highly successful student.
- People can win by quitting – quitting destructive behaviors, that is.
- Quick fixes are bogus.
